Welcome to The Fitties!
A unique coastal community for 100 years.
The Fitties is a village of 320 chalets that border an area of sand dunes and salt marsh along the Humber Estuary in North East England.
When to "take the air" was first suggested, out came the canvas tents and carriages to the windswept beach in Lincolnshire, and the first 'holiday camps' were born. These were later replaced with timber chalets as the 'plotlands' (or fitties) developed, and other materials became popular.
Sadly, all but a few of these have been swallowed up by developments, but this one remains largely intact, thanks to a conservation order in the '90s.

The chalet owners have devoted many years improving their properties into what they have become today,

Chalets which began life as weekend retreats for the “Great and the good” of Grimsby, and holiday venues for families from industrial towns, have evolved into a more permanent home for most of the chalet owners.
